Following the clarion call by diverse ethnic and political groups in the Southern Senatorial District of Nasarawa for Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa to contest for the senate seat in 2019, the governor had formally declared his ambition to contest for the seat, yesterday.
The Governor who finally made the declaration at the inauguration of the newly elected state executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lafia, the State capital, said “People have been calling on me for the past two years, trying to convince me and called me to the aspire for the Senate seat of Nasarawa South.”
According to the governor, “After due consultation and listening to peoples; voices and reputation of critical stakeholders, I, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, do hereby accept the yearnings of my people to throw my hat in the ring to contest for the office of senator for Nasarawa South.”
Al-Makura, who further applauded the APC for the successful congresses and the recently concluded national convention, said the part was ready to take Nigeria to greater height.
The governor admonished the leadership and members of the party in the state to work harmoniously, as a team, in order to ensure a resounding victory in 2019.
The governor also appealed to all the governorship aspirants in the party not to rely on any political ‘god father’ to get the party’s ticket but rather work hard in their campaigns to sell themselves to the people.
