Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle of Zamfara State has directed the State Directorate of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs to with immediate effect give assistance to the flood affected communities in Zurmi local government area.
This is contained in a statement by the Director General Press Affairs Government House Gusau, Malam Yusuf Idris and made available to Journalists in Gusau, saying the warmed directive followed assessment visit paid by the Governor last Tuesday.
The statement further disclosed that the Governor expressed he was deeply shocked with the receipt of the sad news that floods have caused lots of damages to numerous farm lands and houses in Zurmi local government following aggrieved rainfall that lasted for several hours in the area.
“He assured that relief materials will soon be provided to all the affected communities as soon as government receive the report of the damages caused by the disaster so as to reduce the sufferings experienced by the victims.
“Governor Matawalle also called on the people of the state to ensure commitments towards clearing all water ways, drainages and culverts with a view to achieve free floor of all rain water especially in this month of August as such will make the environment more hygienic and accessible to all inhabitants and would be free from all forms of disease, the statement added.
The Governor further prayed to Almighty God to avert the reoccurrence of such flood disaster in the future and called on the affected communities to consider the situation as an act of God and accept it with good faith as God will bring more of what they have lost.
