From Ibrahim Sidi Muh’d, Gusau
The Concerned Citizens of Zamfara state has debunked reports alleging that a 1 billion naira loan was collected from UBA meant for the repairs of Gusau Dam by the administration of former Zamfara state governor now a serving Senator, Ahmad Sani Yariman Bakura.
The group said what was collected was 500 million naira.
In a rejoinder signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Group, Abdurrahman Muhammad Tumbido and Saminu Salihu Muazu respectively said, their attention was drawn to a report carried by a national daily (Not Peoples Daily)on how former Zamfara state governor blew N464m, describing it as totally false representation.
The statement claimed that, the ICPC officials have discovered that the alleged 1 billion naira loan as presented before the court, allegedly collected by the ex-governor from the UBA was 500 million, as the bank approved letter dated 9th/October 2006 which was also presented by the plaintiff showed.
It said the money spent for the repairs of the collapsed Gusau dam was 574 million naira.
it added that the said money was an overdraft to the state government.
“The ICPC officials also presented statement of account of Zamfara state government from UBA where 500 million naira was disbursed as loan and credited to its account on the 11th of October 2006, however, there was nothing like 500 million naira overdraft in that statement of account”, the rejoinder reads.
