Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi state has ordered the arrest of three Chinese nationals and the immediate closure of their mining firm, causing health hazards to communities in Toro local government area of the state.
Yuguda gave the order yesterday when he paid and unscheduled visit to the company’s site.
According to him, the Chinese firm occupied the land after they had registered with the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals but they did not comply with all that’s is required before they started their
mining activities and their activities posed danger to both human and animals in the area.
The Governor said the Chinese nationals did not pay compensation to the communities, they did not relocate the communities before they started their activities which caused health hazard to both human and animals in the area.
He said he received a report from the state ministry of health that the activities of the firm caused health hazard to both human and animals’ life in the area.
The Governor said the activities of the mining firm led to the displaced of over 18 communities living in the area and pledged to use traditional community leaders and the security agencies to locate the displaced communities in order to assist them.
