The Immediate past FCT Mandate Secretary for Transportation, Hon. Zakari Angulu Dobi has emerged the Senatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the FCT lone seat in the National Assembly, in the forthcoming 2023 general election.
Dobi defeated three other aspirants at a primary election described as free and fair by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Announcing the results after voting and counting of ballots, Chairman, FCT APC electoral committee panel Alhaji Lawal Yari declared Angulu Dobi winner with two hundred and seventy-seven votes to defeat his closet rival Mrs. Benjamin, who scored twenty- eight votes.
Earlier, addressing the 310 delegates from the sixty-two wards of the six area councils of the FCT, the FCT APC Chairman electoral committee panel Alhaji Lawal Yari on behalf of the committee members had assured the delegates of a peaceful exercise.
Accreditation of voters and voting commenced at about ten minutes to Eleven in the evening with only two out of the four aspirants present. That is Zakari Angulu Dobi and Mrs Adedayo Benjamin. They were given two minutes to address the delegates.
Speaking after the exercise the FCT INEC resident electoral commissioner Alhaji Yahaya Bello said he was satisfied with the entire process.
In his acceptance speech the winner, Dobi thanked the delegates for their patience, promising not to let them down.
The FCT APC senatorial standard bearer said as a grassroots politician who passed through all the stages of elections beginning as a councillor, he is fully prepared for the task ahead.
He also had a brief discussion with his fellow contestant, Mrs Benjamin and exchange of pleasantries.
The other aspirants who were not present at the venue are former FCT senator, Usman Jibrin Wowo and former federal house of representatives member, Mr. Zephania Bitrus Jisalo.
Dobi, a former House of Representatives member for Abaji, Kwali, Gwagwalada and Kuje Federal Constituency, was also a two-term Gwagwalada Area Council Chairman and Former House of Representatives member from 2015 to 2019 for the Abuja South Federal Constituency.
