With effort aimed at mandating workers in the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service to acquire ICT skills, the State Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Cecilia Udoessien has charged that henceforth, the acquisition of such skill will now be used as one of the conditions for the promotion of workers in the state civil service.
Udoessien said the decision became imperative following the recent embarrassing delay experienced in the payment of staff salaries in the state in which she attributed largely to the inability of some staff of the payroll unit to apply Microsoft words format in the preparation of payment voucher of the MDA’s.
The Head of the Civil Service made this known at the recent meeting of the college of the Permanent Secretaries in the state following the presentation of the progress report of the office of the Account
General by the state Accountant General Mr. Udo Isobara.
Impressed by the efforts of the state Accountant general in getting the staff of his office to effectively embrace and apply the ICT in their daily schedule, the Head of the civil service said making the acquisition of efficiency literacy skill as pre-condition for promotion in the civil service will reinforce greater commitment by all public servants to acquire the skills.
The Head of the civil service lauded the Accountant-General forspiritedly taking up the challenge and putting those who were deficient; in the skills through series of intensive training programmes which has resulted in the near normalization of salary payment in the State.
She was full of appreciation to the State Governor, Chief Godswil Akabio for approving the construction of a 100 seater computer centre in the state conference hall in the State Treasury Headquarters, saying with the inauguration of the project, more public servants will have opportunity to be trained in ICT.
Also speaking, some members of the college also joined in the commending the State Accountant General for his zeal in inculcating ICT culture in his staff, and in the hitch free running of activities of his office and the subsidiaries.
