The minister of women affairs, Barrister Uju Kennedy Ohanenye has said indigent women in Nigeria will get health insurance while assuring that women and children hospitals will be reintroduced across the six geo-political zones.
The minister gave this assurance at the ministry headquarter in Abuja on Monday shortly after she was sworn in.
She said the ministry, under her leadership will get donors to help these indigent women get health insurance adding that if the donors don’t cooperate, she will go out to meet the president to take money from taxes and get the insurance for them.
According to her “we are going to reintroduce, women and children hospital for which by God’s grace will start from each geo political zone then if we get money, we will extend it to all the states. In these hospitals we will try to get some donors to help us for these women to have health insurance because they can’t pay.
“If the donors are not eager to do that, then we all organise ourselves, walk down to the president and ask the president to take out this health insurance for these rural women from the taxes, especially taxes from communication, then we can get them to tax things that men love to take a lot like alcohol, cigarette. Some Nigerians are dying from a thousand naira they can’t afford to buy drugs”
Ohanenye further said she will ensure women work harder and support their husbands. “When you work harder, your husband will respect you more and live longer, your children will live better, that is my major goal in this ministry”
