The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abia State has urged groups in the state to be actively involved in the permanent voter’s cards(PVC) distribution and voters registration.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Prof Jacob Jatau, made the call in Umuahia yesterday during a meeting with stakeholders in the state on the exercises.
Jatau said the PVC distribution and continuous voters’ registration would take place between May 23 and 25 and May 28 and June 1, 2014, respectively.
“INEC wants to ensure that people at all levels of the society are duly informed and adequately educated about the exercises,” he said.
Jatau said the contribution of every stakeholder was needed for positive results.
“We seek your cooperation in explaining to your various constituencies what you have been told concerning the commission’s activities.
“INEC wants to ensure that the exercise will not be cumbersome for anyone that will participate, therefore, adequate logistics will be in place,” he said.
In his remark, Eze Philip Ajomiwe, the Chairman of Umuahia North Traditional Rulers’ Council, commended INEC for embarking on the exercises.
Ajomiwe urged the commission to ensure that all facilities were put in place to ensure a hitch free exercise.
“INEC should ensure that its performance this year surpasses the 2011 voters registration,” he said. (NAN)
