The Zamfara Conflict Resolution Concern Forum (ZCRC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately declare an indefinite state of emergency in Zamfara State due to the high levels of insecurity there.
The group stated that this call is prompted by Governor Lawal’s abandonment of the state in the face of daunting security challenges. This abandonment raises widespread concerns about his preparedness, moral qualifications, and apparent lack of resolve required to protect people in distress.
In a statement issued by the convener of the group, Tukur Sabi Gusau, and shared with journalists on Monday, it was lamented that the lack of the Governor’s active involvement in addressing these challenges intensifies the despair felt by all of us, further eroding our trust in the government’s preparedness, sincerity, and political will to safeguard our lives and property.
Tukur lamented that by abandoning the people who voted him into power to the mercy of a rampaging criminal onslaught, Governor Lawal has lost any moral claim to remaining in office beyond this point.
He said, “The only viable option for rescuing the people of Zamfara from Governor Lawal’s administration, which has quickly gained a reputation as the worst in the history of our state in terms of its ability to generate confidence in achieving credible national goals, is the declaration of a state of emergency by the Federal Government.
“With such a lack of strong leadership at the state level, it is understandable that criminals and killers feel emboldened, seeing an opportunity to exploit the system, which in turn increases their confidence and competence in subverting the state and compromising our security.
“Finally, we categorically state that the people of Zamfara cannot continue to live and die under the dictates of killers, kidnappers, rapists, and various criminal groups that have deprived us of our rights to live in peace and security.”
The group further noted that indiscriminate acts of violence, crime, and acts of terror have not only caused immense harm to innocent lives but have also instilled fear and anxiety in the hearts of our fellow citizens.
He said, “In times of crisis like this, a responsible, sensitive, and decent leader is expected by his people to step up, guide, and provide reassurance to the state.
