Islamic clerics from the Jama’ atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Ikamatus- Sunnah, JIBWIS , have begun nationwide sensitization of youths in the country on the consequences of drug abuse, alcoholism, gambling and immoralities in the society.
The association noted high rate of drug abuse has reached alarming proportion in various communities in Nigeria hence the need to join hands to curtail the menace
The National Chairman of JIBWIS, Shiekh Bala Lau disclosed this in Kontagora local government of Niger state during the sensitization lecture and fund raising for the building of Skills Acquisition Centre as well as an Islamic school (Sudan Islamic Center)
Lau said that smoking, drug abuse and gambling are forbidden in Islam and even considering the danger to the lives of the people involved hence it should be resisted in all ramifications.
He urged the people to always obey God and follow the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah as that was the only way to have peace and tranquility.
Represented by the Chairman Council of JIBWIS Ulamas, Dr Ibrahim Jalo Jalingo, charged the youths to acquire knowledge both formal and informal, advise them to avoid drug that is harmful to their lives.
He also appealed to the people to make use of knowledge gained.
The Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso called for generous donation from the people.
He urged other organizations to emulate JIBWIS as he decried the current drug abuse cases that is getting rampant.
He challenged them on peaceful coexistence adding that no meaningful development can be achieved in an atmosphere of rancor and acrimony hence must sustained the tempo.
He said that, the present administration was ready to support organizations that preach peace and love for one another.
The Chief Launcher and National Assembly member representing Rijau, Magama Federal constituency, Hon. Shehu Saleh Rijau (Slow) stated that the National Assembly was making dome moves to enact laws to assist in controlling drug abuse in Nigeria.
The lawmaker promised to build an ICT center in the school and lamented over the involvement of youths in drug abuse and the consequences of the future generations if not curtail forthwith and donated N2 million.
The occasion was attended by several dignitaries which includes politicians, captain of industries, clerics, traditional leaders, businessmen and political office holders.
