The control tower of the Kaduna International Airport was yesterday razed down by fire, destroying the control tower of the airport.
An airport staff who pleaded anonymity said the fire broke out late in the afternoon on Sunday and took staff and passengers by surprise.
According to him, “We were working when we saw thick smoke at the top of the tower and before we could deploy our fire fighters to contain it, it engulfed the whole control tower.
“We could not extinguish the fire and so the whole control tower area was burnt down completely,” he narrated.
A technical staff who initially refused to speak later agreed but spoke under plea of anonymity said the cause of the fire could be an electrical fault, but the airport authority were yet to confirm it as
at the time of filing the report.
By the time our reporter got to the scene the fire had been brought under control and attempts to speak to the management of the airport proved abortive.
However, some other staff that ran helter-skelter to rescue other parts of the airport from been affected explained that it was hell trying to contain the intensity of the raging fire.
According to them, the tower is damaged beyond repairs and so it has to be completed replaced.
