Kaduna state Governor, Muktar Ramalan Yero yesterday said discussions have reached advanced stage for the reopening of the Ikara Tomatoes Company so as to boost production in the state.
Governor Yero disclosed this while closing the 35th International Trade Fair hosted by the state. He said all other food processing companies will also be revamped through the same process.
The governor said that if reopened, the company will no doubt boost tomatoes production and create wealth for farmers.
“We have adopted the PPP model in reviving the Ikara Food Processing Company, the Kafanchan Flour Mills, the Kacia Ginger Processing Company and the Makarfi Sugar Company. Presently, discussions have reached advanced stage for the reopening of the Ikara Tomatoes Company and this will boost production and create wealth for our farmers”, he said.
Kaduna according to him is presently the preferred investment destination in the North and has created the enabling environment that supports businesses to thrive and make profit.
He said, “The present situation where our state is one of the major producers of tomatoes but yet we import tomatoes paste is unacceptable and unwarranted. I believe it is time to make a change for the sake of engendering a sustainable economy.”
