From Muhammad Ibrahim, Kaduna
Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU), Kaduna branch yesterday said it has completed all arrangement to embark on an indefinite strike tomorrow Saturday 1st March to demand for the consolidated health salary structure of its members which the state government failed to pay.
The Union has already directed all its members in the state to remain at home from midnight today, 28th February till their demands are paid.
Addressing a press conference, the State Chairperson of the Union, Comrade Cecilia Musa said the strike became necessary as all efforts to make the state government fulfill its promises in that regard was not successful.
The Chairperson also lamented the lackadaisical attitude of the state government towards the health sector, saying presently the sector suffered shortage of health workers operating in state own hospitals.
“The situation is pathetic because according to WHO, a nurse is supposed to attend to 6 patients, but as it is today in Kaduna, a nurse takes care of 30-40 patients a day leading to stress among the health workers in the state.
According to her, the union believe strike shouldn’t be solution to the problem because they believe dialogue should always be a solution to any problem.
