Customs Area Controller, Kaduna/Katsina States area Command, AlhajiAbubakarGadam has disclosed that the command had recorded major achievements during the Easter break as it succeeded in making nine seizures.
Briefing newsmen, yesterday in Katsina, Gadam who said the duty value of the seized contrabands stands at N40.9 million, noted that the seizures were made between the 17th to the 22nd of April in various locations across the state.
He stated that the seized goods include eight vehicles with duty value of N11.6 million, 482 bags of 50kg rice with duty value of N3,4 million, 176 sets of blankets with N1.6 million duty value, 413 cartons of assorted drugs such as Tramadol, Diclogun, Ostimine, Future Secudrex and 990 packets of Coldtime with duty value of N22.2 million.
According to him, the daring smugglers had wanted to use the Easter holiday for their illicit activities believing that the Customs officers would be on holiday, adding that with this the Customs had sown they were always on the alert.
He said ‘I want to send a word of warning to smugglers and would be smugglers that we are always ready for them. In as much as they will not comply with the import guidelines they will continue to suffer lose or even risk going to jail’.
Similarly, Gadam stated that this year the command has started its first quarter on a sound note as the command rakes in a revenue of N1,325, 824, 581.00 which he said was better than last year where N1, 121, 809.00.
The Controller stressed that the command’s doors are always open to genuine importers and other businessmen, adding that they are ready to facilitate trade. He also thank sister security organizations for their support to the command.
