As part of the events to be showcased during the coming 2020 Arugungu Annual Fishing Festival, yesterday the Kebbi State Traditional Sports Association commenced arrangements by organizing Traditional Boxing (Danbe) competition in honor of the Secretary to the State Government, (SSG).
The event which took place at the Boxing House in Ma’ami Barrack will bring out the 1st to 4th positions that will represent each group at the Arugungu International Fishing Festival and bring out the best that will represent the state at the International Traditional Boxing competition in Nigeria.
Speaking to journalists on the importance of the competition, the State Chairman Organising Committee and Traditional Boxing Comrade, Farok Bello Birnin Kebbi said that the aim of the game is to streamline the number of the boxers that will represent the state during the forthcoming Arugungu International fishing Festival and International Traditional Boxing competition.
He explained further that the competition will last for two weeks while the 1st winner will be given Pegout 406 car,, the 2nd position will also receive Motorcycle, while 3rd position will got N50,000 and 4th position will collect N30,000 only.
He noted that the traditional boxing is the most popular games in the state and the two groups of the competitions are Guromana and Arewa groups which the winners will represent the state at the International event.
In a related development, a philanthropists and Senior officer in the Nigeria Civil Defense Corps (NCDC) Kebbi State Alhaji Sani Anaruwa has called on the government, individuals, stakeholders and others to used sports activities as a tools to bring peace and unity among the religions and ethnicity groups in the country.
He made the call weekend while fielding questions from journalists at the Filing Square Birnin Kebbi describing the sports activities as another way in uniting the nation and reducing the high rate of crime among the teaming youths in the community.
Sani who organised the motorcycles speedy competitions said that the programme was to empowered the youths and bring them closer to each other by eschewed their differences in respective of their trip and religion.
“As you can see the number of people that were hear, you can count thousands of people both Muslim’s, and Christian as well as different trips” he added.
“Am an advocacy of unity and I do this to foster the good relationship between the two people in the communities, I do visit prison, hospital, mosque, churches as well as assisting the orphan by visiting the orphanage home every end of the month,” he said.
The winners received N30,000 to 40,000 with one motorcycle, while Musa who came second got N25,000 and third position Issa got N10,000 with clothes.
Responding, the winner of the competition, Mohammed Birnin Kebbi thank the organizer of the programme assured him that the money will be used judiciously.
