A truck driver, Danladi Alpha, and two others have appeared before a Karu Senior Magistrates’ court, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for alleged attempt to kidnap a police office while on duty.
Alpha and his conductors, Joseph Idako and Ahah Mohammed, of Olaye Street, Kogi, appeared before Senior Magistrate Omolola Akindele, on a two-count charge of dangerous driving and attempt to commit an offence.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Philip Akogwu, of the Asokoro police station told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on March 19 around the Asokoro junction, Abuja.
Akogwu said that Alpha, driver in-charge of a truck with registration number BAS13XE, drove his truck without caution and in a dangerous manner to other road users around the Asokoro junction.
He said that the officer on duty, Emmanuel Amos, stopped the driver and ordered him down from his vehicle for questioning, an order the driver refused to obey.
Akogwu said the officer had no option than to force himself inside the vehicle since the driver was adamant.
He said that Idako and Mohammed encouraged the driver to move the vehicle and took the officer to an unknown destination.
He said that the timely intervention of some policemen on patrol stopped the accused persons from causing grievous hurt to the policeman.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Akindele admitted them to bail in the sum of N50,000 each and two sureties each in like sum who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
She ordered that the sureties should produce one passport photograph each to the court registrar.
The case was adjourned to April 16 for the police to produce witnesses in the case. (NAN)
