From Mohammed Ibrahim, Kaduna
Northern youth group under the umbrella of Arewa Youth Coalition for Peace yesterday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack all the service chiefs for failure to end herdsmen killings in the country.
The youth group also gave 12 weeks ultimatum to President Muhammadu Buhari to end the killings of innocent lives across the country.
The Chairman of the Group, Comrade Muktar Muhammed, disclosed this in Kaduna at a news briefing.
According to him, if the President failed to end the killings before the ultimatum expires, the youth will overtake the streets in protests until their demands are met.
He lamented on the number of lives that were killed in parts of Zamfara, Benue, Kaduna, Taraba, Sokoto Nassarawa and recently Plateau states.
According to him, Northern Nigeria has now become a killing field, making life in the region more difficult.
“We in the vanguard for a peaceful, prosperous and egalitarian Nigeria, hereby issue an ultimatum of 12 weeks to the President and his team, to not only address the aforementioned.
“But to also put operational mechanisms of state in action to bring these killings to an end, as anything to the contrary, will not only adversely affect the economy of the agrarian northern Nigeria, but will also diminish foreign direct investments into the country.
“We are committed to setting in motion our wide-reaching machinery via protest, civil disobedience and other legitimate platforms towards ensuring that youths across the federation see reasons to boycott the polls or pitch tent with a candidate that will address these issues.
“We also know that the global community is watching will not see this election as participatory if the over 87 million youths in this country don’t cast their ballot,” he said.
Muktar added that” if our country’s security architecture is federalized, then the president and commander in chief of the armed forces must be held responsible for the death of any citizen from the activities of purveyors of terror, evil and nihilism”, he said.
