Mrs Florence Itamunoala, a ort Harcourt lawyer yesterday advised the National Conference to tackle the menace of corruption setting the country backward.
She told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt that corruption must be fought to a standstill in the country, as it had hindered the nation’s progress.
Itamunola, however, said that the fight against corruption must start from the citizenry.
‘’We must deal with corruption because no matter how good a plan is, once element of corruption comes in, it will flop.
“We (Nigerians) have been static in growth and development and I think that whatever we are doing let us address how to deal with the issue of corruption.’’
According to her, the nation has been ‘’the giant of Africa’’ without attaining the expected economic growth and development expected of a giant.
Itamunoala said members of the national conference should be serious with their assignment, as so much (money) had gone into the conference.
‘’So much has gone into this national conference; so much that would have gone into other things.
“It will be very unfortunate if at the end of the day we are not able to make out something good from this national conference that will move the nation forward.’’
She urged the delegates to consider their assignment as a sacrifice for the growth and development of the country. (NAN)
