The Former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Sani Lulu, has given scholarship awards to 10 under-13 football players to help them in fulfilling their educational ambition.
The beneficiaries of the scholarship award, which is worth N725,000 each annually, were selected from a competition organised by FOSLA Academy of Abuja in Kogi and the FCT.
A statement by the scholarship programme’s Co-ordinator, Patrick Ngwaogu, in Abuja yesterday said the beneficiaries would enjoy the scholarship from secondary school level to tertiary level.
The statement quoted Lulu, who is the academy’s proprietor, as saying the gesture was a way of giving back to the society, especially to young players from less-privileged families.
“This programme has been on for over 15 years, and it is our little way of giving back to the society.
“The beneficiaries will join other naturally-endowed players at the FOSLA Academy to continue their football careers and combine this effectively with their education, starting from Junior Secondary School (JSS) 1.
“The academy will sponsor them all through their educational career and manage their playing career effectively.
“It is our dream to see more Nigerian stars emerge from the academy.
“Currently, we have over 50 players in the academy, and a higher percentage of them are sponsored by the school,’’ he said in the statement.
The scholarship beneficiaries from the FCT are Ahmed Yahaya, Moses Aluko, Abdulkadir Baba, Habib Kazeem and Bulus Ezra.
Those from Kogi are Hamza Dauda, Chibuyo Haruna, Bala Emmanuel, David Daniel and Daniel Abraham.
