It’s been one amazing year for Matthew McConaughey! After his co-star Jared Leto won Supporting Actor, he took home the Oscar for Best Actor for his part in ‘Dallas Buyers Club!’
“Alright, alright, alright.” Somehow, those three words don’t get annoying when they’re coming from Matthew McConaughey constantly winning awards! Whoever said he was a RomCom actor was completely off — and he proved it by taking home award after award this season, including the biggest of the year — the Academy Award.
Matthew McConaughey Wins Oscar’s Best Actor
Congrats! We were so happy when Matt took the stage, thanked the Academy and the other nominees, as well as his co-stars. His speech was absolutely one of the best of the night!
He pointed out that there are three people he needed to point out — “Something to look up to, something to look forward to and someone to chase.”
First it was God, “because that’s who I look up to. He’s graced my life with opportunities that are out of my hand. He’s shown me that it’s a scientific fact that gratitude reciprocates.”
Next up was to his family, since that’s who he looks forward to each day. He mentioned both his parents — his father who he said he “knows is up there right now” and who is probably eating lemon meringue pie and dancing around with a Miller Light in hand. You could tell that his family was the utmost important to him. He even got choked up toward the end of the family segment — “my mother demanded that we respect ourselves. To my wive Camila and my kids, you are the four people in my life that I want to make the most proud of me.”
At the end of the speech, he said that he is his hero — himself in 10 years — “I’m never gonna be my hero, that keeps me with somebody to keep on chasing.”
Naturally, he finished off his speech by saying that whatever we look forward to, look up to, or whoever it is we chase, “to that, I say ‘Alright, Alright, Alright,’ and ‘Just Keep Livin.’”
Matthew Wins Big Again: ‘Alright, Alright, Alright’
Matthew was up against some huge names for the big award – Christian Bale for his role in American Hustle; Bruce Dern from Nebraska; Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street; and Chiwetel Ejiofor in 12 Years a Slave
After winning Best Actor at the SAG Awards and the Golden Globes, Jimmy Kimmel pointed out how amazing his acceptance speeches were when he appearred on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Feb. 26.
“If I start with ‘All right, all right, all right,’ and ‘Thank you,’ I really can’t go wrong,” he told Jimmy. Of course, he then asked what he’ll say if he wins at the Oscars. His answer was simply, ”First three words that I ever said on film, which were, ‘All right, all right, all right.’”
We’re glad he stuck with that!
