The police yesterday arraigned a 19-year-old mechanic, Thomas Alex, of behind Finance Quarters, Wuye, Abuja, in a Kado Upper Area Court, Abuja, charged with stealing a power saw.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Salisu Mohammed, told the court that Attascoaga of Keffi, Nasarawa State, lodged a report against the accused at the Wuye Police Station, Abuja, on April 11.
Mohammed said the accused person went into the complainants shop and stole his power saw, valued at N140, 000.
He added that Alex was caught by local security men while trying to flee the scene, noting that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, the accused is liable to seven years in prison or an option of fine or both.
However, the accused person pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The presiding judge, Mr Abubaka Sadiq, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N20, 000 and a surety in like sum.
Sadiq said the surety must have a fixed address and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the matter till May 26 for further hearing. (NAN)
