An Upper Area Court in Karu, Abuja, has sentenced a commercial motorcyclist, Garba Nuhu, 18, to six months imprisonment for beating up and stabbing a passenger.
The presiding judge, Mr. Hassan Ishaq, sentenced Nuhu, who pleaded guilty to the two-count of assault and causing grievous hurt.
Ishaq, however, gave him an option of N10, 000 fine.
“The court gave you an option to pay a fine because of your plea. This is also taking into consideration the fact that you are a first time offender.
“I must warn you that next time you appear in the same court that showed you mercy and gave an option to pay a fine, you will not get away with whatever you do.
“You are young and should not be engaged in criminal acts,’’ he said.
Earlier, the prosecutor,Inps. Stephen Eimoga, informed the court that one Mr. Isaiah Forgiveness of Nyanya, Abuja, lodged a report at the Karu Police Station on March 9.
Eimoga said the accused picked up Forgiveness on his motorcycle from Nyanya to Kugbo and during an argument over the fare; the accused went to a nearby bush, parked, beat and stabbed him.
“My lord, after the accused inflicted wounds all over the complainant’s body, he fled the scene of the crime with his bag but was later arrested by policemen on patrol with the help of those close by,’’ he said.
Eimoga also told the court that the offences contravened the Penal Code. (NAN)
