The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria,MWUN, has advised the federal government to as a matter of utmost economic importance dredge river-Benue from Lagos state.
President General of the Union,Comrade Adewale Adeyanju gave the advice yesterday, stressing that dredging of the River Benue will facilitate transportation of products and passengers from Lagos to the Northern part of the country.
Comrade Adeyanju who was represented by Comrade Ebiye AtouI, President of SEAMEN/ NI WA and Water Transport Branch of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria at the official inauguration of new state executives of the Union in Yola, Adamawa state said that the North stands a better chance of benefiting economically if River Benue is dredged.
Down memory lane, Atoul recalled that River Benue in time past used to be an easier and cheaper means of transportation of goods and services to the Northern part of the country.
