Hundreds of Mada youths in Akwanga local government area of Nasarawa state, yesterday staged a peaceful rally to declare support for the administration of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura .
The youths also declared the state deputy governor, Dameshi Barau Luka, their kinsman, a betrayer, for defecting from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wielding placards and chanting solidarity songs, the Mada youths first gathered adjacent the ABC Transport Bus Park, located along Keffi road in Akwanga, before marching through the town, which resulted in a slight disruption of traffic on the busy Akwanga/Keffi road, with the youth finally berthing at the round-about located in the centre of the town.
Speaker after speaker lauded the development effort of the Governor Al-makura administration while at the same time denouncing the action of their son, Barau Luka, who they dubbed a “gold digger” and a “betrayer”.
A Mada elder, Aboki Waziri, in his 70s, speaking almost at the point of tears, showed gratitude to the youths for staging the rally.
According to the septuagenarian, out of the different ethnic groups across the state, “the Mada people are the luckiest and happiest people to receive Al-makura” but that to their surprise, some people he described as hypocrites, have betrayed the people by defecting to the PDP.
“If Dameshi will not consider Al-makura as a human being, then he is fighting against the angels because the condition Dameshi was brought into government was pitiful”, Elder Aboki said.
He noted that since the creation of the state, the people have not seen any governor who administers the state effectively like Al-makura.
Organizer of the rally and Special Assistant to Governor Al-makura on Students Matters, Kassim Mohammed Kassim, said they Mada people have found it necessary to openly denounce Dameshi for betraying his kinsmen.
