The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) has released the names of areas to be covered by the re-run election across the 10 local government areas earlier described as inconclusive, with 206,665 registered voters expected to participate in the exercise.
Chairman of the NASIEC, Dr. Abdullahi Modibbo, stated this yesterday in a press conference in Lafia, stressing that the commission is set to conduct the re-run election, with at a the commission will make public soon.
Modibbo stated that the purpose of the interaction with the press was to keep the people of the state abreast about the line of action by the Commission and to also salute the courage of the people of Nasarawa state and the support they accorded NASIEC during the local government election.
He disclosed that based on the submissions of the Commission’s returning officers, re-run election will hold in the three affected local government areas.
In Akwanga there will be re-run election for the post of the chairman as well as that of four councilors in Akwanga West, Akwanga East, Andaha and Gudi; in Keana LGA, only councillorship re-run in Galadima, Tudun Adabu and Gidan Ausa II.
In Nasarawa LGA, re-run for the chairmanship position as well as councillorship in Nasarawa North, Udenin Magaji, Ara I and Akum; Toto, only councillorship in Garagwa; Wamba, councillorship in Mangar and Arum wards; Keffi, councillorship in Sabon Gari.
Other areas where the re-run will hold include Kokona LGA; councillorship in Koyah and Agwada; Karu LGA, councillorship in Bagaji/Agada and Keffin Shanu/Betti and Lafia LGA, councillorship in Assakio and Adogi.
Reacting to the resolution of the state Assembly asking for his sack, Modibbo, noted that there was every need to put the record straight stressing that every institution is guided by the rule of law “and every other institution should be a respecter of the law.”
Regarding the resolution of the House demanding for the sack of the NASIEC officials, Modibbo said there are limits in the functions and duties of the Assembly, stressing that the question of the Assembly ordering for his sack was contrary to the law.
