Federation of International Basketball Association,FIBA has extended the deadline given to Nigeria to resolve the crisis rocking the federation.
This was revealed by the Chief of Staff to Sunday Dare, Alhaji Abba Yola at the Moshood Abiola Stadium on Saturday.
Abba Yola said the world basketball governing body, FIBA and the Ministry of Sports are in smooth communication and unanimously agreed for the extension of deadline and a date for the election after the reconciliation committee has completed their job.
“the Honourable Minister of youth and sports development is a meticulous person and he does not want to do things in a haste or something that will bring us back to where we are now, so,after a fruitful discussion with FIBA it was agreed that the deadline should be extended and a new date should be fixed for election ”
He added that the Reconciliation Committee inaugurated by the Ministry of Sports will submit their report in December to chat the way forward to end the crisis.
“The Reconciliation Committee will submit its report in the second week of December, we have done our investigation on the crisis and we discovered that the major problem is the Constitution which we suggested that should be amended. I believe before the Elective Congress the basketball family will become one again we shall see the game of basketball on the rise again. The next elections will be free and fair to all who wish to contest for any position.
“The division and crisis is really affecting the development of the game and the players and that’s why it is important to settle the internal rancour before the elections.
“Basketball stakeholders need to embrace peace if truly they love the game as they claimed.”
The 2021 NBBF Elective Congress was slated for October 30 before the Ministry of Sports and NBBF Congress announced the postponement few days to the scheduled date.
