Niger Delta Youth Association, ( NDYA) on Sunday urged the Federal Government to jail all lawmakers fingered as beneficiaries of Niger Delta Development Commission ( NDCC) contract scam as listed by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswiil Akpabio.
NDYA in a statement signed by its National President, Victor James, a copy made available to our Correspondent in Asaba, said that such move would send shock waves across the spines of corrupt lawmakers and contract that will serve as deterrent to others.
The statement reads” As part of effforts to strengthen rule of law in Nigeria, those Lawmakers Akpabio mentioned as culprits of NDDC scandal should face the full wrath of the law, and this will be wake-up call for the citizens and those currently in positions of leadership to respect the law and work with integrity. If the EfCC , DSS, and Presidency, fail to punish these corrupt lawmakers and contractors whose names were mentioned in the list as beneficiaries corrupt contract, it will set a bad precedence for others. Now it’s time for President Muhammadu Buhari to show leadership qualities”
The statement further averred that” we can’t live in a country of financial abuse by Lawmakers whilst our youths Continue to live in abject poverty due to lack of Job opportunities in Niger Delta and Nigeria at large. Charity they say, begins at home, if my brother abuses me financially, or psychologically, Is it a stranger that would treat me with respect and dignity? .The answer is no because it falls under the law of slippery slope logic . I repeat, there is no sustainable developments like Jobs, factories in Niger Delta for youths. EfCC , DSS, NIA, please do your job now , stop working with fear. We are watching: don’t give secessionist opportunities to groom angry old neglected people in Nigeria. punish those Akpabio mentioned to send fear in the Spines of corrupt Lawmakers and Government”
Accordingly, the statement noted that” Since there is compelling evidence, they should be dealt with immediately to serve as deterrent to other corrupt politicians and Public Office holders, and President Muhammadu Buhari should do something drastic and put his name on gold plate , especially punishment for the Lawmakers that were part of the dubious Contract Scam, we want the punishment urgent because we are running out of our patients at the moment”.
