Oyo State House of Assembly yesyerday condemned the suspected killings at Soka in Oluyole Local Government Area.
The lawmakers condemned the act at plenary presided over by Speaker Monsurat Sunmonu.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that no fewer than 20 decomposed bodies and some emaciated captives were found in an apartment in Soka on Saturday.
Hon. Olusegun Olaleye, who drew the attention of the House to the incident, said that it should be addressed and perpetrators brought to book.
“I want to say that the incident at Soka was callous, malicious and wicked. I think the development should condemned by all civilised persons,” he said.
He called on Gov. Abiola Ajimobi, who visited the scene of the incident on Monday, to take over the site for developmental purposes.
The House also adopted a motion calling on the executive to take appropriate measures to stop the spread of malaria in the state.
Hon. Fatai Salami, who moved the motion, said that there was the need to halt the scourge in view of its health implications..
“I want the issue of malaria to be controlled or if possible to be eradicated in Oyo State,” he said.
He cited a Federal Ministry of Health research finding which said 60 per cent of out-patient visits to health institutions were for treatment of malaria.
The lawmakers also called for the establishment of a Malaria Control Fund to combat the disease.
NAN reports that the lawmakers also deliberated on a bill for a law to provide for the enumeration of commercial vehicles and transport operators in the state. (NAN)
