The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday accused the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) of grandstanding over issue affecting the welfare of the people.
The party in a communique released after its 3-day retreat for the PDP Zonal and Publicity Secretaries held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state and signed signed by its Chairman, Professor Rufa’i Ahmed Alkali and its Secretary, Nwachukwu Ngige, also carpeted the opposition for its refusal to participate in the ongoing National Conference in spite of the fact that its leadership has been championing same for over a decade.
The communique also commended the Bayelsa state governor, Hon. Henry Seriake-Dickson for hosting the retreat even as it commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his unwavering efforts at delivering the dividends of democracy to the citizenry.
The communiques stated in part, “After two days of rich deliberations during which eminent resource persons presented papers, the PDP Zonal and State Publicity Secretaries commended the National Chairman, Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu on his emergence and applauded the firm steps the National Working Committee under his leadership has been taking to reposition the PDP.
“The retreat also commended His Excellency, President Goodluck Jonathan GCFR, who despite unwarranted attacks and distractions from the opposition, has remained focused in his commitment to transform Nigeria. It further commended his steadfastness to bringing a lasting solution to the lingering insurgency in parts of the country as well as his determination for a strong, united and peaceful Nigeria through the on-going national conference.
Furthermore, it commended the Executive Governor of Bayelsa state, Hon. Seriake Dickson for hosting and providing an enabling environment for the success of the programme.
“For an effective and authoritative anchoring of the publicity machinery of the party, the retreat recommended that the publicity secretaries should be integrated into the cardinal organs of the party.”
