The police have arraigned a 25-year old driver, Mustapha Dahiru, in an Abuja Chief Magistrates’ court charged with allegedly causing the death of an ex corps member.
Dahiru is accused of recklessly driving his tipper with Reg No 971 JJN and hitting one Andrew Gambo on motorcycle leading to his death.
The accused is arraigned on a three-count charge of causing death by dangerous driving and driving without vehicle license.
The Prosecutor, Mr. Yakubu Sabo, told the court that the incident happened on the Jikwoyi Road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He said the victim, who was on a motorcycle when he was hit, died instantly but the rider escaped unhurt.
According to him, the victim was an accounting graduate searching for job after his youth service before his untimely death.
The accused admitted killing the victim but blamed the commercial motorcyclist for “entering in front of my vehicle without checking.”
The Chief Magistrate, Hadiza Dodo, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000 with a surety in like sum that resides within the jurisdiction of the court.
The case was adjourned till March 19 for continuation of hearing. (NAN
