The Bauchi State police command has arrested six suspected armed robbers who have been terrorising local residents with locally made weapons in the state.
While parading the suspects yesterday, at the Command headquarters, along Yandoka road, Bauchi, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Haruna Mohammed said an AK 47 rifle, locally-made pistol and a vehicle suspected to be stolen were recovered from them.
Mohammed said that the gang specialised in robbing and dispossessing their victims of valuables within the state.
The PPRO said that a joint patrol, made up of police and a vigilante group on patrol along Burga village of Bununu, in Tafawa Balewa local government council, and intercepted the gang, at about 1 a.m., on Tuesday.
“One Musa Garbage, male, 50 years, of Gommadaji village and one Umaru Ibrahim M., of Nora Jarawa village in Bununu, were arrested while three others escaped.
“The suspects, who robbed their victims, one Musa Mohammed and Dada Idris of the same address and collected the sum of N23,000, one Nokia and Techno handsets and two sets of wrappers and five yards of ‘Shadda’ cloth and a box containing different wears and other documents, were beaten to stupor by mob action”, he said.
The PPRO said the Police attached to the Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate also arrested one Abubakar Danladi and one other who entered the shop of one Onukwube Alphonsus at the Estate and made away with money and other valuables, saying the police recovered a locally-made pistol and a vehicle suspected to be stolen.
