Apparently to forestall a possible mass protest by some stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the continuous stay in office of the Chairman of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), the Secretariat of the party located at Blantyre Street in Wise 11 has been taken over by gun welding anti-riot policemen.
The road leading in and out of the party Secretariat was cordoned off by the operatives yesterday morning, who also screened every vehicle and passerby that went through the street.
No fewer than six patrol vans were used by the operatives to block all strategic points contiguous to the party office.
But when contacted, the Secretary of the Caretaker Committee, Sen. John Akpanudoedehe told newsmen that the policemen were only on routine operation which he said happens from time to time.
“Oh, nothing is happening. They have been there several times whenever we need to safeguard the Secretariat, you are not in position to read security reports, so you cannot ask me. If something happens now, they will say what were they doing. There are so many things that have to do with security that you are not aware of.
“It’s a routine thing, the police liaise with the FCT minister, the IG and other people if they have any information. Not only here, if you are coming to Abuja, going to the Airport, we have the duty to protect the people who work here, we read security reports and I’m sure you are fully aware we have every security agency in our Secretariat. We are only acting on security reports, there is no cause for alarm”.
Recall that some stakeholders of the ruling party have been complaining about the continuous stay in office of Buni who is also a sitting governor of Yobe state.
