The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports and Social Development, Senator Adamu Ibrahim Gumba has berated the National Sports Commission (NSC) N5.6 billion for 2014 sporting activities.
The chairman who stated this yesterday in Abuja during NSC’s budget defence, said the proposed money for the year is embarrassing.
“The total allocation is N5.6 billion for 2014 out of which N2.4 billion for sporting activities.
“Personally, it’s embarrassing; the money is too small for our sporting activities because from the money, 2, 921,800,871 overhead, 1,196,108,871 personnel how mount is left, “he asked.
Also speaking, minister of sports Tamuno Danagogo commended the committee for indicating interest in order to pursuit government for adequate funding.
He promised the committee to work assiduously to ensure the confidence repose on him by Mr. President to manage sports is justified.
Meanwhile, director general of the NSC, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye who appeared to Gumba led committee to defend its 2014 budget maintained that the commission would continue to do its best in supporting sports industry.
“Anything that we have to do with Nigeria’s sports is very important to me and to the entire NSC, the Commonwealth games is there, we have Youths Olympics in China, we have the African Youths game in Botswana, every competition that we go we should go there and win medals for this country.
“So, none at all is less important, the World Cup is very important and I believe sincerely that we will do well, “he stated.
