The National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer SERVICOM, Mrs NnenaAkajemeli, has called on the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) to institutionalise some of its processes of governance across the 774 local government Councils in Nigeria.
This call was made when she delivered a lecture on the Concept of Service Delivery within the local government at the ALGON workshop on Wednesday at the Public Service Institute Kubwa.
Mrs Akajemeli stated that the quality of governance is determined by the quality of service delivered to citizens and how much such services have met their needs and expectations. That as Nigerians we must take responsibility as implementers’ and be citizen -centred in the way we render service delivery in our various councils.
According to the National Coordinator, good governance is a way of measuring how public institutions conduct public affairs and manage public resources in a preferred way that is significant to efficient service delivery at the Local Government councils across Nigeria.
She chargedthem, to embrace the pillars of good governance, with a view to consensus oriented mediations at different interests’ levels in the society that will produce best results for the community.
The National Coordinator also called for an effective participation by both men and women who are key cornerstones to good governance toadhereto the rule of law for fair legal framework within their purview.
She called to mind the essence of good governance, through effectiveness and efficiency that will produce results that meets the needs of the society by making the best utilization of resources at their disposal.
Akajemeli,also said that our society needs equitable inclusiveness by ensuring that all members of groups have a stake in the mainstream of the society, thus creating a balance in administrative practices in the system.
Good governance,’’ must be responsive, transparent and accountable at all times and should be done in a manner that follows rules and regulations’’ she said.
She assured participants that SERVICOM will engage the ALGON lead to process the message and have a buy-in that will engage the citizens to be a part of effective and efficient service delivery in Nigeria.
