Serious tension has enveloped Enugu metropolis, following the alleged gruesome murder of a 17-year-old secondary school student, Ede Chidiebere, by the enforcement team of the Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA).
The brutal enforcement team of the Enugu state agency, which had been allegedly terrorising residents of the metropolis, sent the young man to his untimely grave for allegedly using an unauthorized ESWMA bag to dispose refuse in the early hours of Monday.
The mother of the 17 year-old boy, Mrs. Ede David told our correspondent that her son, Callistus Chidebere Ede, met his untimely death when she asked him to go and dispose an already bagged refuse with grain bag on Monday morning.
According to her, “I was preparing to go to market to sell my food that morning, so as he left with the waste in our wheel-barrow to the dump site for disposal, I quickly prepared for market. While I was going out with a tricycle operator popularly known as (KEKE), I had noise towards the area my son went to dispose refuse, I asked my sister to carry my food to the market with the KEKE man and I proceeded to the dump site to know why my son had not returned.
“When I got to the dumpsite five hefty-boys were beating him, I approached them and asked why they were beating him but none of them uttered a word.
“I asked them to stop beating him and asked my son what the matter was, but he couldn’t talk because he was already too weak”.
“When I stopped I raised the alarm and people came out in their numbers and rushed him to a nearby private hospital, called Ogechi Hospital where he was confirmed death at about 3:30pm Monday.
When African Examiner visited ESWMA office, at the Government Reservation Area, GRA the gate to the premises was under lock and key, just as hundreds of people besieged the gate protesting the gruesome murder of the school boy.
Managing Director of the agency, Mr. Dom Okonkwo when contacted on phone declined comment.
However, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the killing of the young man by ESWMA officials.
Amarizu said “We have received information on the alleged murder of a 17 year old boy by yet to be identified persons and investigations into the incident have commenced to ascertain their motives” he stated.
