Persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen yesterday killed more than 20 persons in Agena village in Gwer local government area of Benue State.
The attack is coming barely three days ago after there was a bloody fighting between Tiv youths and suspected Fulani marauders in Gbajimba, Guma local government area during which over 50 persons were reportedly killed on both sides.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that the armed herdsmen besieged the village as early as 6 am while the locals were just waking up from sleep to commence their day’s activity, adding that the entire community has been sacked.
“We woke as early as 6 am and observed that the entire village has been surrounded by armed herdsmen. They were shooting at us as we scampered for safety. We do not know where they came from or what we have done to deserve this unwarranted attack”, he said.
Confirming the incident, the Benue State Police Public Relations’ Officer said so far, 7 corpses have been recovered and deposited in the mortuary.
He intimated that adequate police officers have been drafted to the area to restore peace and order while investigation into the incident has commenced.
