A trader, Innocent Edward, yesterday appeared before an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, charged with stealing 900 crates of beer and drinks worth N2, 404,200.
Edward, a resident of No. 20, Seyifunmi St., Okitipupa, is facing a one-count charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on February 7, at 4.35 p.m., at No. 12, Hospital Road, Okitipupa.
Orogbemi said the accused was a former customer of the owner of the store, one John Emeulomo, adding also that the accused brought a truck to the store and carted away the goods comprising crates of Star, Heineken, Gulder, Maltina and Farouz soft drinks.
The prosecutor said the offence was contrary to Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge against him. The Magistrate, Mr Olalekan Awodeyi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N2 million, with a surety in like sum and adjourned the case till April 28, for further hearing. (NAN)
