The Nigerian military said troops of Operation Hadin Kai, OPHK, on Saturday repelled an attack on Biu, Borno state by the Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP.
The troops killed four infiltrators as they clashed with the terrorists.
Army Public Relations Director Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement on Sunday, said they were wiped out by troops from the 231st Battalion and the 331st Sector 2 Artillery Regiment.
Nwachukwu said criminal elements found their waterloo, when brave troops swiftly defeated them in a failed raid on Maina Hari village in Biu on Saturday.
He said the troops unleashed superior firepower on the terrorists, neutralizing five of the terrorists, forcing others to retreat in disorder in the intense battle.
According to him, the brave troops also captured the terrorists, a truckload of weapons, a Deshka M anti-aircraft gun, an HK 21 machine gun, a rocket-propelled bomb grenade, 137 12.7mm anti-aircraft cartridges, among others.
“The troops are currently chasing the fleeing terrorists,” he said
