Board Chairman of the Nigerian Railway Corporation NRC, and immediate past Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, AlhajiBamangaTukur said the new board is set to return the NRC to its former glory of being the country’s highest employer of labour.
He remarked that the Nigerian Railway has already keyed into the transformation agenda of the present administration with the effective implementation of the new policies mapped out by the corporation’s board.
Tukur spoke in Lagos where the board adopted the report and recommendations of the corporation’s management on the issue of the Corporation’s Pension Fund, the board also directed the management to implement the report and recommendations immediately.
AlhajiTukur also announced that the Eastern Lines of the Nigerian Railway Corporation will soon commence full operations to serve the South Eastern States of the country.
Also, a statement by the management of the NRC said the chairman “pledged his preparedness and that of his co-Board members to return back the NRC to its original status as the number one employer oflabour in the country and the most economically viable Federal Government Establishment”.
It said he urged the management to corporate and work closely with the Board in order to achieve the board’s aim of ensuring the viability of the Nigerian Railways.
He called for serious sense of sacrifice and commitment among the staff with an assurance of improving their condition of service in line with civil service rules and regulations.
