A young, promising journalist, Mr. Maxwell Nashan working with the Federal Radio Cooperation of Nigeria (FRCN) Fombina FM Yola in Adamawa state has been murdered by unknown assailants.
Findings by our reporter revealed that the assailants stormed his residence at Degeri, a suburb near NYSC camp in Girei Local government Area around 2 AM Wednesday night forcing him out of his room while his neighbours were asleep.
Some of those interviewed speculated that the slain pen pusher was having unreported disagreement over a mobile phone issue while others presuming to be related to his preparation to marry this year.
Confirming the development on a mobile phone interview yesterday in Yola, Secretary to Fombina FM,NUJ Chapel, Mr Anthony Shekara said the late colleague was attacked through beating after tying his hands from behind which lead to his untimely death.
Shekara who spoke in a sober mood described late Nashan to be a humble and hardworking journalist which the radio station are grooming to attain.
“Nashan was found unconscious in the early hours of Wednesday near the station and finally passed away at the hospital.
“Honestly this development shocked us all as colleagues and friends and late Nashan was a humble young man, we will be missing his contributions as well as his company indeed”, Shekara attested.
Also speaking on late Nashan, the state Secretary of NUJ, Mr Fidelis Jocktan who work in the same FM station with the deceased, said the deceased who is single and planning to marry was picked by his assailants at his resident in Bajabure area.
“They did not take anything from his house. They took him away and dropped him near the station tied up and unconscious.
“There are signs of beatings and cuts on his body. Some women going to farm saw him and reported to civil defense operatives at the station who rushed him to hospital,” Jocktan said.
Security situation in the state is becoming a serious concern to all and sundry as people are now sleeping with one eye close due to activities of kidnappers and local criminals.
When contacted, the Spokesman of the Police Command DSP Suleiman Yahaya said the command has directed the homicide unit to unravel the suspects behind the killing.
