A yet to be identified officer of the Ogun State Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) was yesterday confirmed dead, while another one was on danger list following a multiple accident which occurred along the Lagos -Abeokuta express way.
The accident, which occurred around 10: 45a.m in front of the Lafarge Cement Company in the Ewekoro Local Government area of Ogun state, involved three vehicles, a DAF truck marked (LAGOS) KRD 237 XK which rammed into an already stationary Toyota Matrix car marked (LAGOS) FKJ 991 AV before hitting another unidentified truck.
Peoples Daily observed at the scene of the crash that a team of the VIO officials from the Sango Ota office were busy cross checking particulars of a 10-Ton truck that was at the speed breaking point of the expressway before the crash which claimed the life of one of them.
A cement laden DAF truck marked (LAGOS) KRD 237 XK which appeared to have a failed break appeared from the rear, overtook other vehicles before it hit the Toyota Matrix car and eventually forced the tationary 10-Ton truck to run on the three VIO officials.
While one of the officials died on the spot, another one identified as Jamiu, who was bearing the spikes, was critically injured as blood was oozing out of his head, nose and chest.
When contacted, the Itori Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Fatai Bakare who confirmed the incident said six people, all males were involved in the crash.
Bakare, who attributed the cause of the accident to break failure, also stated that corpse of the dead VIO personnel had been deposited at the Itori General hospital, while the injured victim was also receiving treatment at the same hospital.
As at the time of filling this report, the proper identity of the dead VIO officer could not be ascertained.
