Eight Local Government Council Chairmen, including that of Anka, Bukkuyum, Maradun, Bungudu, Kaura Namoda, Maru, Tsafe and Birnin Magaji in Zamfara State have jointly denounced their memberships of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in favour of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State.
In a joint press conference at the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs yesterday, the Chairman of Anka local government Council, Alhaji Ahmad Balarabe, who spoke on others’ behalf said they were convinced with Governor Matawalle style of leadership.
“We are not politically intimidated by anybody to drop our party for the ruling PDP, but rather, we are convinced with the relative peace so far being enjoyed in the State which was achieved by the Matawalle administration.
“Our reasons to defect to PDP were very visible, we do not need to take pages for one to be made to understand that there is relative peace in Zamfara, markets are now operating without any hindrance by groups of bandits as of those days.
“There is now free movement from one angle of the State to the other, not minding the time and distance which could not be so before the present administration of Governor Matawalle.
“During the immediate past administration, one has to rush to pass through numerous areas before day time elapsed for fear for attack by either dangerous groups of bandits and, or kidnappers who use to ambush roads for their unlucky victims”, the Chairmen recalled.
They however, denied reports on social media that they wanted to simply decamp to survive alleged plan by the State governor to temper with their federal government statutory allocations.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Maru local government Council, Alhaji Salisu Isa Dangulbi maintained that “We were aware that, times without number, Governor Matawalle was pressurized to use all legal means to remove us but, he had been replying that we were elected by our people, and therefore that we should be allowed.”
