A housewife, Amina Bature , 28, who dragged her husband Yusuf Bature to courts for turning her into a punching bag, has succeeded in ending their 16-year-old marriage.
A Grade 1 Area court in Aso Pada, Mararaba, near Abuja, dissolved the marriage between Amina and her husband, Yusuf who was fond of beating her with the stick he uses in controlling his cattle.
The presiding officer of the court on Islamic matters, Malam Danladi Musa, dissolved the marriage after Bature told him that they had not been able to settle out of court.
Musa then dissolved the marriage and ordered Amina to return the N6, 600 Bature paid as her dowry.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Amina had on January 6, dragged her husband, Bature to court, alleging that he always beats her with his stick and had also sold her property without her consent.
“Recently, precisely two days ago, he carried the cow sticks as usual, to beat me and I ran to the court.
“I am no longer interested in the marriage, the court should separate us,” she pleaded.
In his defence, Bature told the court that the efforts he made on many occasions to settle their differences failed.
Bature prayed the court to grant him custody of their daughter, and to order Amina to pay him N150, 000 in compensation.
The judge ordered Amina to return the custody of their seven-year-old daughter to Bature.
He also ordered the court registrar to give a certificate of divorce to Amina.
