The Chairman of National Women’s league Mrs. Dilichukwu Onyedima has called on the Nigeria U-20 women national team, the Falconets to show the stuff they are made of in the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.
Onyedima in a telephone chat with our correspondent said it is high time Nigeria proved her football artistry at the global stage and stamp her authority in the round leather game at the international level.
While congratulating the Falconets for qualifying for the World Cup, Onyedima said the fact that the girls put up decent performances in the friendly matches they have played so far showed that they are ready for the football showpiece.
Onyedima who is also an Executive member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said baring any injury the Falconets should surpass their previous records at the tournament.
“I believe that our girls are ready and will play well in Canada. Baring any injury, I see our girls going far in the competition to make us proud and represent the Africa continent very well. I expect them to exceed their previous records.
They have played in the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the competition and played in the final of the competition in Germany few years ago”, she said.
She added that the coach of the team Peter Dedevbo is up to the task as he knows the formation to employ at the tournament to bring the best out of the girls.
The Nigerian team is competing in Group C and will play its first game on August 6 against Mexico, before meeting South Korea on the 9th and then England in the last group match on the 13th.
