Capacity Development Initiative for African Child has sensitized schoolgirls on sanitary hygiene to mark the World Girl-child Day celebrations in Kano State.
Speaking during a 3-hour programme at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, yesterday, Chief Executive Officer if the organization, Bitrus Sale said the event was organised to educate the girls more on their hygiene.
According to him, there was lack of adequate consciousness of sanitary hygiene among girls in Nigeria, adding that, that had negatively impacted their life.
He added that the event was not restricted to hygiene only, but would also educate the participants on entrepreneurship and skills acquisition.
Sale also maintained that, sanitary hygiene is vital to social and academic life of girls-child, noting that failure to imbibe in body sanitation would discourage girls to be active members of the society.
“We are doing this programme to celebrate world Girl-child day.
Sanitary hygiene is very essential to their life. It enhances their social and academic life.
“ Apart from that, we also educate them on entrepreneurship and skills acquisition in order to enhance their socioeconomic life.
“This program has yield positive results on our girls. As we select some schoolgirls, they would desiminate the information they have got here to others that dis not participate, “ He said.
One of the participants, Maryam Abubakar from Yandutse Girls Secondary School said she benefited a lot and learnt more sanitary tips at the program.
