The College of Agriculture, Gujba, in Yobe state has been closed down following recent attacks by insurgents,s even as government makes arrangement for the provision of adequate security in the institution.
It was however gathered that the state government, determined not to allow the students and academic activities of the college to suffer too long, has decided to relocate the college to a temporary site at the Government Boys Secondary School in Damaturu, the state capital.
The Provost of the College, Alhaji Mulima Idi Mato, who disclosed this to Peoples Daily in his office at the temporary site, said the turn-out of students at the site is commendable adding that most of the lecturers have also completed their syllabuses and have been conducting continuous assessment tests.
He said it is expected that the examination for the 2013 and 2014 second semester would begin by 3rd March, after academic activities started in January 2014.
The examination officer of the college, Alhaji Ismaila Mohammed however lamented that the temporary site has not effectively accommodated both staff and students of the institution, and called on the state government to speed up necessary arrangements to ensure better teaching and learning process.
Most of the students who spoke to Peoples Daily decried the situation of inadequate water supply in the site, causing them to buy water from water vendors at exorbitant prices, and appealed to the state government for assistance.
