From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi
Three suspected robbers were at the weekend lynched to death by an angry mob in Terwase Agbud, a suburb in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The robbers, who numbered more than six, it was gathered had stormed the area in a white Toyota salon car, shot sporadically into the air to scare away residents before attacking their target, a motorcyclist whom they shot.
But an eye witnesses who pleaded anonymity said the culprits are suspected cultists that have been terrorizing Terwase Agbadu and Judges quarters areas.
According to him, the cultists may have come with an intention to kill the motorcyclist who is also said to be a suspected member of a rival cult group.
However, luck ran out of them when youths in the area quickly mobilized and barricaded the street, refusing passage of the car in which the robbers drove, pulled them out of the vehicle when they
tried to escape and immediately set three of them ablaze and the others escaped.
Men of the police at the E’ division Akpehe who arrived the area on a tip-off quickly confiscated the Toyota saloon car, recovered items including an English pistol, charms, a parcel of Indian hemp and six
capsules of dangerous drugs. They later conveyed the suspects and corpses of the deceased to the police station.
The police spokesman, SP Daniel Ezeala confirmed the incident and said investigation into the matter is ongoing and advised youths to engage in meaningful ventures to avoid crime.
