Zamfara State Hizba Commission have been dragged to the High court of Justice sitting in Gusau the state capital by one Nuradden Shehu, demanding the commission to pay him and his sister, the sum of N5million over their unlawful arrest as well as assault on him and his sister by men of the commission.
Contained in a writ of summons to the court, a counsel to the plaintiff, Pwahomdi M. Lasco, said on 11th November 2013, Hizba corps had illegally forced themselves into the apartment of the plaintiff and dehumanized him and his 17 year old younger sister (name withheld) who is a student of Government Girls College Talata Mafara.
The counsel explained that the defendants, who without lawful justification ushered themselves into the apartment of the claimant, handcuffed him and his younger sister, and dragged them to the Commission’s branch office in Talata Mafara.
The counsel further narrated, “While the claimant and his sister were illegally arrested and forced to the Hizba office, list of properties including laptop, cell phones as well as other items were missing, and the claimant and his sister were illegally detained for hours before they were released.
The counsel therefore said that, the sum of N362, 000 must be paid to the claimant as compensation for the missing items.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Nuruddeen, he claimed that the men of the Hizba commission mobilized to pick his sister while attending a class at her school creating an embarrassing scene before her schoolmates, and was taken to an unknown destination for two days.
Contacted for comment, the state Chairman of the Hizba commission, Dr Atiku Balarabe Zawiyya said he is not aware of the development, and also not in a position to respond.
