Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB) has trained 1,974 teachers on how best to continue teaching pupils the use of jolly phoenix method in the state.
This was disclosed by the Director of Primary Education Alhaji Garba Abdullahi, during the opening ceremony of the programme held in Gusau, Zamfara State capital on Sunday.
Alhaji Garba, explained that, jolly Phoenix is a literacy English program organized by UBEC together with ZSUBEB annually to train Zamfara State teachers on the new method of reading and writing among pupils.
“Zamfara State has been active in the programme since 2011 and noting that according to the data by the National Bureau for Statistics the illiteracy level of the state has reduced drastically from Tsafe further said, the program would be extended across the fourteen local government areas of the state as the local governments have been divided in to two zones.
