A Group, Equity Alliance had expressed dismay over the poor quality of work on Zaria – Pambegua road and Zaria – Hunkuyi – Kafur – Gidan Mutum Daya Road, in Kaduna State by the contractor .
The chairman of the group, Magaji A. Baba. stated this in a statement made available to the media in Kaduna yesterday.
The Group called on the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola to revoke the rehabilitation contract as a result of negligence and poor performance of the contractors.
The Group added that they have gone round the sites of the roads to ascertain the level of progress , saying what they saw is disappointing, despite the fact that contracts were awarded two years ago.
“This has led to the serious problems that resulted to loss of lives and property as a result of accidents.”
According to the statement, the work has not exceeded 10 percent progress and it is substandard, particularly the mix ratio on the drainage work and some pot holes on newly reconstructed parts which show incapability of the construction companies handling the projects.
The group lamented that the 88km road from Zaria to Pambegua has taken a long time to complete without any justifiable reason.
While advising the Minister to take all the necessary measures to revoke the contracts and award to serious and competent contractors to do the work, it warned that failure to take action within three weeks, the group will file a suit against the Ministry and the contractors in a court of law.
